WHAT is BOOMERANG ABOUT and who we are?
The concept is a fun, work-exchange experience on a macadamia farm.
We believe, what goes around, comes around and as such we would like to be able to give amazing life-skills opportunities to travellers and gap year students, in exchange for their help to harvest the trees and run the farm.
We want to help grow friendships, teach team work, nurture minds with no direction and simply offer a unique working experience.
We are a home-schooling family with 3 girls. The oldest is in Cape Town studying to be a chef and the two younger ones are around, free-range and "farmified". We have a live-in tutor to assist us with their schooling and would love the idea of our Boomeranges sharing their skills and interests with them (guitar, dancing, painting etc).
Both Jacques and myself are entrepreneurs. I have a company based in Cape Town that I oversee remotely and I have a playdough business that is setup on the farm.
What we offer:
What we require from you:
More information:
Ideal candidates between the age of 18 and 30, male or female welcome, we will consider ages above 30.
We will consider younger kids (16 / 17) if accompanied by an adult.
Families are more than welcome to join, we will however negotiate a catering fee for those tagging along and not working.
Boomeranges arrive Sunday afternoon from 2pm and settle in.
We will gladly fetch you from Knysna if you plan to come on a bus or shuttle or for those flying down, we will arrange to collect you from the George airport.
Stay in weekly slots for anything from 1 week to as long as you like*
When your time is up, you help clean up camp and set it up for the next group arriving that day, departure is by 12pm on Sunday.
Monday start the day with a wholesome breakfast before heading out to the various chores.
Work can sometimes be labour intensive and tireing, but it is very rewarding at the end of the day.
We will try our best to make this an enjoyable and learning experience rather than a drill-camp of hard work and no play.
Jacques and I are passionate about what we do and would love the share the experience with others.
Our farm is on a tar road, just 8.5km from Knysna. It is a safe area and we have a great supportive community.
There is a country store across the road where basic supplies and food can be purchased.
For those that enjoy cycling and running, we have some beautiful spots around the outskirts of the farm.
Knysna has a fantastic provincial hospital as well as a Life Health private hospital.
We offer basic shared bathroom facilities with shower and toilet and there is also a washing machine for those that stay longer than a week.
We welcome small groups or couples, so feel free to discuss dates that work for you so that we can be sure to accommodate you all together.
*Our main harvesting season is in May / June, the winter months are quiet and not ideally suited to camping. Should you sign up and enjoy the experience and provided we feel you are an asset to our work force, we will gladly consider longer term stays. We resume the work-experience from around September again, through to mid December.
If you have any further enquiries, please feel free to email or call.
