• South Africa is now the world's biggest producer of macadamia nuts.
• Macadamia nuts are the world's costliest nut in part due to its slow harvesting cycle.
• In 2021, the top exporters of Macadamia nuts were South Africa ($277M), Australia ($246M), Kenya ($101M), Netherlands ($39.7M), and Guatemala ($38.2M).
• Macadamias have become the fastest-growing tree crop industry in South Africa. Production grew from 1,211 tonnes of nut-in-shell (NIS) in 1991 to an estimated 61,288 tonnes in 2022.
• Conventionally grown macadamia nuts require the use of chemicals, which are potentially damaging to our physical and environmental health. By choosing organic, you are not only doing something good for your overall health, but also supporting a more sustainable environment.
